Job or Career, Tired or Drained: Understand the Difference

Understanding the difference between a job and a career and being tired or drained will make a difference in increasing or decreasing your mental strength.

Business before pleasure, work now, and enjoy your hobbies later. These phrases have been passed down throughout generations, exemplifying the ideology of separating work from pleasure. The sole mission was to work long hours to provide a home and feed the family by any means necessary. The sacrifice is understandable, and the work ethic passed down was incredible and appreciated. Our ancestors taught us that achieving success required wisdom and a tireless work ethic, and although they had great intentions, the one thing they struggled to pass down was how to possess the mental strength to rest our mental strength. Huh?! What did he say?... I'm glad you asked.

I went through a 10-year span of struggling with this concept. For me, mental strength meant going to work, paying the bills, securing the benefits, and everyone was supposed to be happy. Now you're probably asking yourself, what is the problem with that? Don't worry; I got you! See, the problem for me began when I realized that I was spending too much time at a place (the JOB that I couldn't stand, but it paid the bills). This is when I discovered the difference between being tired and being drained. Feeling drained means being 90% mentally tapped out and 10% physically exhausted. This occurs when we're working at a JOB and sacrificing our passion and purpose for the "bag and benefits." This is a rough cycle to experience because when you're 90% mentally tapped out, it is almost impossible to recoup that mental capacity over a weekend or after a two-week vacation. We're fooling ourselves into thinking that we can refill 90% of our mental and emotional strength in a short period.

This is when I understood the difference between a job and a career. Your career is chosen based on your passion and purpose and motivates you to use your gift to create wealth. After spending a hard day inching closer to success doing what you love to do, you feel tired instead of feeling drained! Remember, tired is 90% mental and 10% physical, and you're tired because you spent a hard day inching closer to success doing what you love, which can be recovered with everyday rest. The bottom line... DON'T LET WEALTH DICTATE YOUR GIFT; LET YOUR GIFT CREATE YOUR WEALTH! Another message from Mr. G, your social & emotional life coach. I appreciate the conversation.
